چکیده

This paper introduces an approach to mapping relational database contents to ontologies. The current effort is motivated by the need of including into the Semantic Web volumes of web data not satisfied by current search engines. A graphical tool is developed in order to ease the mapping procedure and export enhanced ontologies linked to database entities. Moreover, queries using semantic web query languages can be imposed to the database through its connection to an ontology. Using Protégé, we were able to map ontology instances into relational databases and retrieve results by semantic web query languages. The key idea is that, instead of storing instances along with the ontology terminology, we can keep them stored in a database and maintain a link to the dataset. Thus, on one hand we achieve smaller size ontologies and on the other hand we can exploit database contents harmonizing the semantic web concept with current wide-spread techniques and popular applications.

Integration Mapping Rules: Transforming Relational Database to Semantic Web Ontology

Semantic integration became an attractive area of research in several disciplines, such as information integration, databases and ontologies. Huge amount of data is still stored in relational databases (RDBs) that can be used to build ontology, and the database cannot be used directly by the semantic web. Therefore, one of the main challenges of the semantic web is mapping relational databases ...

Apply Uncertainty in Document-Oriented Database (MongoDB) Using F-XML

As moving to big data world where data is increasing in unstructured way with high velocity, there is a need of data-store to store this bundle amount of data. Traditionally, relational databases are used which are now not compatible to handle this large amount of data, so it is needed to move on to non-relational data-stores. In the current study, we have proposed an extension of the Mongo...

Mapping between Relational Databases and OwL Ontologies: an example

This paper shows how relational databases can be used to define a bridging mechanism between relational database and OWL ontology. We demonstrate on a simple yet completely elaborated example how mapping information stored in relational tables can be processed using SQL to generate RDF triples for OWL class and property instances. This technology provides the means to use relational database as...

OntoMongo- Ontology-Based Data Access for NoSQL

Ontology-based data access (OBDA) has gained attention in recent years for providing access to large volumes of data by using ontologies as a conceptual layer and exploring their ability to describe domains and deal with data incompleteness. This is done through mappings that connect the data in the database to the vocabulary of the ontology. The first OBDA studies were about data stored in rel...
